The Weekend To End Breast Cancer
August 20th, 2007This weekend I was hurrying around town behind the eight ball as per usual when I say a flurry of pink bedecked people walking up the street. As I got closer, I realized that these people were participants in the annual Weekend to End Breast Cancer 60km walk.
Men, women, children and four legged friends dressed in an array of pink shirts, wigs, hats and other accessories sure to put a smile on onlookers faces. They looked proud, enthusiastic and on a mission.
I was taken as I watched the groups pass one after the other, thinking to myself that each one of them had a very unique story and reason for joining the march…. Every story was different but each was connected with the underlying reason that they wanted to positively contribute in raising awareness and funds for cancer research.
Chalk it up to hormones (I am four months pregnant) if you want to, but tears trickled down my face as I honked on my horn and waved manically to them. I was so impressed and wished that I had been a part of the walk. I have heard of The Weekend to End Breast Cancer, even participated in a fundraiser but for some reason I never did sign up and join. I guess there is a part of me that is upset for not acting on my desire.
There are many ways to make an impact and be proactive in raising funds and awareness for breast cancer. Here are a few links to provide you with inspiration:
